Race number/bib
The most important item in your race pack is the bib with your race number printed on it (aka bib number). The bib will include:
-
- A timing chip stuck to the back of the number
- A tear off strip to be handed in at prizegiving to go into a draw for spot prizes (on race day to have chance to win a spot prize you must attend prizegiving).
- Safety pins
For the race, please pin the bib on the FRONT of your top, so it is clearly visible. This will enable marshals to correctly direct you and also enable the official photography company (photos4sale) to identify you.
Gear bag tag
The race pack will also include a gear bag tag to be used to loop around the handle of your bag carrying your gear.
Bags will be transported from the start line to the finish line for you to pick up after the race.
Full marathon hydration – own drinks drop off
If you are running the full marathon you can bring your own drink bottles clearly labelled with your name and race number. When you pick up your race pack, the person(s) at the full marathon table will show you where to place your bottles. There will be boxes for each drink station.

The race organisers reserve the right to withdraw any competitor who is deemed medically unfit to continue the race. All competitors agree to abide by this rule by the fact that they enter the event. All competitors enter at their own risk.
Toilets
Toilets (public or portable) will be available close to each aid station i.e. approximately every 5 kms.
Safety and supporters
All competitors enter at their own risk, traffic will be on the course at all times. Speed restrictions and road detours will be in place, full details will be in your Race Pack. Supporters are urged to contribute to a safe and enjoyable event.
Cut off for finishing
We have permission for people to be on the course from 7.00 am to 1.00 pm. However our officials will do everything they can to accommodate late finishers on the course. But officials do reserve the right to pull participants off the course if they are going to finish late. This will be a judgement call for the tail end charlie. In reality this may affect full marathon runners and half marathon walkers. Entrants in the other events should finish with plenty of time to spare.
Results – Gun time and net time
- Live results: Your finish should appear in the live results within a few minutes after you cross the line. If you don’t see your result please contact info@dunedinmarathon.co.nz ASAP.
- There will be a timing mat at the start line to capture your bib number as you cross the start line. Your race result will include a Gun Time and Net Time.
- There will also be timing beacons at the turnaround points. All going well, your chip will be recorded as you pass these points so that your result will include your time at those points of the race.
- Full marathon – AIMS certification: The full marathon course is AIMS certified which means your finish time can be used to apply for entries to some international marathons. The Net time may be vital because the cut offs for some of these marathons may take into account the number of seconds.
Medals
Finishers of all events will be presented with a Dunedin Marathon finishers medal as they cross the finish line.
Note: You do need to finish to get a medal.
Prizegiving
Prizegiving will be held close to the finish line outside Emerson’s at approximately 2pm. The actual time may depend on how long it takes for the last finishers to come in.
Spot prizes
Your race bib includes a tear off tab to be placed in the bucket for drawing spot prizes during prize giving and perhaps other times. Note that you need to be pick up your prize when your number is called. If you don’t show up, there will be a redraw.
Listen out for announcements on the day.
